New algorithm boosts energy efficiency of wireless network

New Delhi: A team of researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and Monash University, Australia, has developed a new algorithm that identifies the right amount of power level, enhancing the energy efficiency of a Radio Frequency (RF)-energy harvesting network. The algorithm, in this study, uses a statistical tool called the multi-armed bandit method that does not depend on channel state information parameters, and the source identifies the optimal power output, IIT Bombay statement said. The performance results of the algorithm are presented in the journal IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. Radio Frequency (RF) signals are electromagnetic radiations used…

Researchers develop algorithm for lensless, miniature cameras

New Delhi: Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Rice University, U.S., have developed algorithms for lensless, miniature cameras. Such lensless cameras have numerous vision applications in areas such as Augmented Reality (AR)/ Virtual Reality (VR), security, smart wearables and robotics where cost, form-factor, and weight are major constraints. Lensless cameras do not have a lens which, in a conventional camera, acts as a focusing element allowing the sensor to capture a sharp photograph of the scene. Due to the absence of this focusing element, the lensless camera captures a multiplexed or globally blurred measurement of the scene.…
