New Delhi (India Science Wire): National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) has invited applications to participate in the ‘Accelerate Vigyan’ workshop on ‘Integrative Systematics of Lichens – Identification to Bioprospecting’. ‘Accelerate Vigyan’ is a scheme launched by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), to provide research career support to students through dedicated capacity building in selected science and technology disciplines. The upcoming ‘Accelerate Vigyan’ workshop at NBRI has been sponsored by the SERB.

The workshop will be held from 15th to 21st March 2021. The themes for the workshop are:-Identification and nomenclature, DNA extraction from lichens, Bioinformatic tools and techniques for phylogenetic analysis, Lichens in air pollution and climate change studies, GIS techniques and ecological niche modelling, Extraction and characterization of lichen secondary metabolites, Biological activities and pharmaceutical potentials of lichens and Project writing, publication ethics and funding sources.

The unique feature of the workshop is that it will provide post workshop support to the participants. “People who do taxonomy need continuous support. We provide them with literature, otherwise not accessible online. As a national facility, the herbarium and library of the institute will be open to the trainees whenever they require. They can consult us at any stage, anytime. We are here to help them” said Dr Sanjeeva Nayaka, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow.
